Who's Behind the scenes
“My name is Sarah, a proud mom to two energetic boys, aged 6 and 3. Born in the historic city of Baghdad, Iraq, my journey took a turn when I moved to the US after tying the knot. I first settled in the serene landscapes of Virginia, embracing its quiet beauty, only to then transition to the bustling city life of Chicago, Illinois – swapping suburbia for skyscrapers. My love for food blogging has been a simmering passion since 2015. Although it took a while to fully embrace, I’ve finally decided to chase what genuinely brings me joy. While I have dabbled in creating professional cooking videos for about three years, the commitment and time each shoot demanded no longer suited my fast-paced life. Now, through blogging, I’ve found the perfect outlet that aligns with my current rhythm and fervor.”
A little bit about Iraqi Cuisine
Iraqi cuisine is a vibrant mosaic that draws from its rich Mesopotamian heritage, interwoven with influences from neighboring regions and its own age-old traditions. Staples like lamb, chicken, rice, and legumes form the heart of many dishes, while the sweet touch of dates, a signature of Iraq, graces many a dessert. The country’s rice dishes, like the unique “Biryani” and carrot-rich “Timman Jizar“, are much-celebrated. Soups and stews, such as the flavorful Okra Stew “Bamia” and the delicacy “Pacha“, showcase the depth of flavors. The daily diet is often accompanied by breads like “Samoon” and “Khubz“. For those who appreciate grilled delicacies, the nation offers its lamb and beef kebabs, and the illustrious “Masgouf” fish dish, grilled to perfection. Desserts are a treat to the senses, with “Kleicha“, a date-filled cookie, leading the sweet brigade. Tea, or “chai“, is the nation’s beloved beverage, usually served strong and sweet, echoing the warmth of Iraqi hospitality. The cuisine’s hallmark is its aromatic blend of spices like cumin, coriander, and cardamom, each dish resonating with the deep and diverse history of the region, making it not just a meal, but a journey through time.
